March/April 2022 Manager's Update

FROM THE MANAGER

In recent years we have seen a considerable reduction in runway incursions but more work is needed to bring that number to zero. To this end, new signage has gone up around the airport to clearly indicate which areas are meant for air traffic only. No ground vehicles or personnel are permitted in the areas shown in red except with explicit permission from airport management.

Since the new signs have been installed, the airport has already received lots of positive feedback. However, on a couple of occasions, instructors soloing students have had to be removed from locations in the restricted areas marked in red and have been warned. It is important to note that even veterans of the area that have great situational awareness are not immune to unfortunate accidents. As an instructor teaching safety, be sure the example you are setting outside of the aircraft is as good as it is inside.

Keep in mind that the restricted areas also apply to the adjacent infield/ grassy areas (see picture below). For everyone’s safety, please do not enter those sections of the airport.

In the event you need to gain access to the east side of the airport, please use public roads CR130 and CR127.

While discussing safety, I would like to remind everyone that the security gates are set on timers. Please be patient and use extreme caution when the gates are opening and closing. A slight bump from a vehicle can cause damage to both the vehicle and the gate while making the gate inoperable. Any damage caused to the gate by a vehicle will be the financial responsibility of the driver. Please pause for the few moments it takes for the gates to operate.

As I am sure everyone has noticed, the price of fuel has increased everywhere throughout the nation. In case you were unaware, we are experiencing extreme price changes from week to week. Please note that we continue to do our very best to not only stay competitive with fuel pricing but also ensuring that our fuel tanks stay full for all of your aviation needs.

It is an amazing time to be a part of the KLVJ community and we are thankful for each of you. Let us all continue to work together and ensure the safest environment for everyone.

Fly safe,

Trevor Espersen
